Colours of Assam

Rain washed fields and skies, glimpses of the sun and sky reflected in pools, and misty outlines of hills seen through floating clouds. That's my world in summer; keeps me warm to think of it in winter!

Poncho : Peruvian Ruana

The ruana in the M&S display cost a bomb - so my daughter told her mom, 'You can make this!!' - and this shocking pink and black ruana took shape.
Didn't have circular needles of the right gauge, so did it in three pieces and sewed them together. after having reached the shoulder length, I split the pink into two pieces lengthwise for the front opening. A mock rib pattern was quick and easy to do. (Rt side: K1, P1, Wrong side : All K)
Tip: Give the front a bit of a 'V'shape  at the 'neck'.

Fair Isle Fantasy

This is a sweater I look at and wonder, 'Did I REALLY knit this???!!'

I did - over twenty years ago, for a daughter who has preserved it with love. And I knitted it with a lot of encouragement from my mother. Mother's an expert at putting colours and patterns together and she's always had fun creating her sweaters.

Colour by Instinct

This crossed bicolour stitch pattern gave me lots of opportunity to play with colours, to mix and match and create new combinations as I went along.

I started off thinking it was going to be a sleeveless sweater, ideal for early winter mornings, but it had the feel and the weight of  a blanket. Not enough stitches for a baby blanket, so I decided it was going to be a throw, or a comforter for cold knees in the car.

'A laptop!' my sister said when I gave it to her!

From lap to chair it slid - like a kitten...

...and there it is, in her home!

Inspiration!

My mother knitted this masterpiece over thirty years ago. It is a prized possession.
I'll let the pictures do the talking.

The shawl that I've used as a background for this page is just one of the many she's knitted for family and friends in the last few years. This one's from last summer.
